As a guest of Chichester Self Catering you can go out
with your hostess, Gayle Palmer, on her classic racing yacht that is 99 years old and has been in the family for 89 years!Experience a 2 hour sail on this classic, beautiful, competitive, racing yacht in stunning Chichester Harbour.
You will need to be fit enough join in and pull ropes etc so suitable clothes are required eg trainers, a waterproof jacket and possibly trousers too. Gloves – riggers or gardening ones are fine! You will need to come in suitably grippy soft-soled trainers or boots (no heels on board, its all varnished wood!).
The type of boat is a Solent Sunbeam. She is 8m long (26’6″) and very streamlined with a long bow and counter. She glides effortlessly through the water. She is raced three times a week in the Summer and races against others in her one-design class out of the nearby village of Itchenor and also races at Cowes Week on the Isle of Wight. www.solentsunbeam.co.uk
Conditions
Max 2 people at a time. Note: the total experience is about 4 hours.
It includes a sail and also either tea or lunch depending on when the sail is.
Good mobility and some strength is required.
All Safety equipment is supplied.
Sailing is totally weather dependent. It may need to be postponed or cancelled at short notice, in which case you will get a full refund.
If Gayle deems that you are unsuitable, given the circumstances, to go sailing, then you will have a full refund. This is usually a health and safety issue. Please respect her decision.
Cost is £180 per person and includes either lunch or tea at your hosts exclusive, Members-only, sailing club which looks towards the South Downs over the water. Available from Spring to Autumn 2023 by arrangement only.
