The delights of Autumn around Chichester

Bramleys

What does “Autumn” make you think of?…

Blackberries and apple pie. Quiet beaches. Freshly sown fields of winter corn. Quiet warm sunny days and shortening nights. Autumnal Equinox storms and beach combing. New programmes on the TV. Cosy sofas. Crumpets. Birds feeding on seeds. Harvesting vegetables and fruit. Making jam and chutneys. Migrating birds – both arriving from the colder Arctic and departing for Africa. Goodwood Revival. Puzzles, reading books and cooking.Goldfinchonteasel-300x279 The delights of Autumn around Chichester

It is a beautiful time of the year – and no less so than on the Manhood Peninsula south of Chichester. The exuberance of Summer makes way for languid days, short nights, plenty all around. make the most of it before the weather really turns – often not until November here in West Sussex!

We can offer weekday and weekend breaks for all the family.

Maybe you are celebrating a special occasion or just want a last minute “getaway”? Enjoy the luxury of the large hot tub and sauna. Make the most of the gas BBQ but perhaps eat inside and cosy up on the sofa afterwards. Mattison-feet.400px-150x150 The delights of Autumn around Chichester

We also have card games and puzzles – which all generations love doing. Going out for walks around the 3 local Harbours will show you just how far the Summer is away! Brent geese arrive in August with the Canada geese arriving a bit later. Many other migrants pass through too – Ospreys, House Martins and terns, the young cuckoos – their parents left in mid May! Half-grown deer are easy to spot on the bare fields and the hedgerows grown with provender for free!

It can also be a chance to do some old-fashioned cooking – using our organic Bramley apples and blackberries picked from the hedgerows – pie or crumble? Cream or custard? Perhaps with a glass of sloe gin in your hand too!

Of course once the Goodwood Revival has ended in mid September the whole area becomes quieter.

So – why not enjoy the pleasure of empty beaches, unspoilt countryside and the peace this brings to your mind and heart? Beach combing is superb activity – it’s free, fun and you can see what you can make once you get home as a momento.

We have plenty of activities for children – the beach-themed garden is protected from the wind and there is the trampoline too plus large garden for football etc There are free and paid for attractions in the locality – eg The Novium in Chichester or the Weald and Downland Museum at Singleton.
