If you are staying for a week or more, or have a special occasion to celebrate you may wish to dine out. Chichester is blessed with many fine dining restaurants who cater for all styles and tastes and finances!
In this post I have described some which I particularly recommend and a shortlist of others to choose from… Enjoy the selection!
The Chichester area is well known for its local produce – Selsey Crab and locally caught fish from the Witterings & Selsey; lettuce, tomatoes and peppers; 3 Harbours Beef; Caroline’s icecream which has won many awards; local venison and game; asparagus and lots more!
It gives our restaurants a great choice of fresh, locally produced produce from which to conjure up some spectacular dishes. We are blessed by having some world-renowned chefs and restaurants locally who can make the best use of these ingredients too!
Cassons Restaurant is situated on the A27 just by the Tangmere roundabout. 01243 773294. It is small, homely in an old building and the host – Cass, is warm and welcoming. The chef of the team – Viv – is a Kiwi and passionate about creating dishes which give you the wow-factor when you see them and aim to make every dish taste even better than you first expected. She doesn’t disappoint! They make everything on site including the bread and can also cater for any food allergies etc. They have theme-nights and Gourmet nights all at very reasonable prices. The dish above is the Selsey Crab starter from Cassons.
Marco’s No 1 is at the top of North Street in Chichester. A stylish building which has been tastefully turned into a restaurant. 01243 774204. Especially handy for the theatre but does a lovely range of plat de jour and al la carte menus and Sunday roasts plus afternoon tea and cocktails.
The Millstream Hotel, Bosham A delightful small hotel and restaurant inn the picturesque village of Bosham. Close to harbour walks after a sumptuous meal! Great service, imaginative menu. Cocktail hour worth a look in too and an excellent wine list. 01243 575234
These are just some of the lovely options around the Chichester area – but if the truth is told – we actually have a plethora of fine dining establishments all nearby! What is more – you can choose between City centre, and rural or even seaside locations! Modern and very traditional styles and a wide variety of food styles too! French haute cuisine, British and Ethnic.
Most also cater for vegetarian, gluten free and some vegan options too.
The difficulty is making the choice! The are in the main good value for money and not much more or the same as many of the local hostelries!
Once you have finished dining, many of the restaurants are also close to fabulous walking areas, so you can stretch out after your lovely food!
